How we can help

Seattle Roots Community Health primary care providers will introduce patients to a behavioral health consultant if requested or if necessary for successful treatment.

First Meeting

A quick 15-minute session where a behavioral health provider will gather information from the patient and recommend treatment and/or referral options. This commonly occurs during the appointment with the primary care provider.

An initial hour-long meeting between a behavioral health consultant and the patient to gather relevant information and create a collaborative treatment plan– respectful of patients’ unique traditions and cultural practices.

Second Meeting
Following meetings

A series of up to 12 therapy appointments over a six-month period during which the behavioral health consultant works with the patient to cultivate coping skills to facilitate lifestyle and behavioral changes to promote overall wellness, focusing on behavioral change strategies, utilizing evidence based approaches, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing (MI), and behavioral activation, etc. In cases where long-term treatment is recommended, the behavioral health consultant will refer patient to a specialty clinic within the community.

If treatment requires medication, the patient’s treatment team will either obtain recommendations from a psychiatrist consultant or refer the patient to a specialist with advanced expertise.

Psychiatric Consultation

During treatment, the Behavioral Health Consultant works to identify and break down barriers to equity. These factors relate to an individual’s societal circumstances, such as income, education, employment, or housing; as well as experiences of discrimination, racism and historical trauma.

Peers provide a living example of hope for others living with mental illness and/or any other chronic condition. Peer specialists provide flexible services that are customized to the needs of the individual and that allow the peer to act as a role model of recovery.

Peer Support Services

The Parental Behavioral Health Program

The Parental Behavioral Health Program at Country Doctor Community Health Clinic and Carolyn Downs Family Medical Center provides support to pregnant people and parents of children under age 18.

The goal of the program is to work with parents with or without insurance to address parenting stress and mood concerns, and to support self-care and family wellbeing by offering individual counseling, psychiatric consultation, medication management, and support groups and resource referrals as needed.

For those who choose to access individual counseling and who meet the criteria, we offer time-limited, solution-focused, strengths-based psychotherapy with mental health providers, dependent on staff availability. We can also assist with referrals to other behavioral health services and supports specific to parents’ needs. We will work with you and your primary care physician to best meet your health and wellness needs.
