Patient Care Philosophy
I firmly believe that healthcare is a right that extends to all people on this planet. That care should be high quality, educational, respectful and dignified so that patients of any and all walks of life who seek care should expect to feel safe, heard and supported in achieving their healthiest self. To that end, I have particular interest in dismantling systems of bias in medicine regarding weight, race, gender, sexual orientation and age.
Why I Work Here
I grew up in New York, but Seattle has been home since 2009. Prior to med school, I was a schoolteacher in Oakland, California. In fact, it was my time as a teacher that inspired me to explore a career in medicine. Helping others, especially through community engagement, has always been my passion. As the oldest of many siblings, and the second oldest of many more cousins, I think caring for “community” is where I feel most authentic and most relevant as a citizen and professional. To have traveled this long journey to end up doing what I love in service of my community through the last Black Panther Clinic in existence is a special blessing that I couldn’t have imagined in my wildest dreams.
Well Being Philosophy
I believe in well being as a complex physical, emotional and mental sensation of fulfillment whose driving components are unique, distinctive to the individual and ever evolving. Family, friends and music are consistent pillars of my well being. They help me remain reflective, inquisitive and meditative in a way that helps my cup remain full and my path steady. My other role players are movies, games and food, including candy (in moderation of course).
